the Marching Quaker Band got an early start and headed straight to Pearl Harbor. After an intense rehearsal with the students representing other states in the mass band, the moment for which the students have been preparing for the past year finally arrived.
Due to his winning essay, junior Zac Kopp was given the honor of raising the flag at the ceremony. He was informed that he is now named an Honorary Ensign of the U.S.S. Missouri, a distinction reserved for those who raise the Stars and Stripes on the ship.
Following lunch and a photo-op, students were given a tour of the ship, which allowed them the opportunity to see the historic site on deck where the Japanese surrender document was signed, thus ending World War II.
The evening’s festivities included a walk along the beach at sunset and a Hawaiian luau, complete with authentic dishes, entertainment and dancing.
